Batman Tutu

My adorable little cousin decided that this year for Halloween she wanted to be Batman. So my cousin (her mom) came to me to help make a little girl Batman costume.

We decided to make a Tutu.

All you need is:

– Elastic band

– Tulle fabric, in whatever colors you would like

– Sowing Machine

– Ribbon

For a little ones waist we used a 3/4 inch piece of elastic. For someone bigger I would use a 1 inch. Measure around their waist and then cut off 2-3 inches of the elastic (once you put the tulle on it will stretch out and fit perfect)

Sew the elastic together and put around a cylinder, this makes it easier to attach the tulle.

Cut the tulle in strips (pretty thick strips) and make slip knots around the band.

We chose Batman colors to match her shirt. We used 5 yards of black and 1 yard of yellow.

When we were done with the tool we attached a blue ribbon around the inside and made a bow.

She is going to be the most adorable Batman ever!

Mini Apple Pies

What do you do when your grandma brings you a case of apples from an orchard in California? Make Mini Apple Pies of course!

To make Mini Apple Pies you use the same ingredients that you would use in a normal apple pie (apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and flour) but you just need to cut your apples smaller and put them in muffin tins instead of a pie tin.

I used a top of a bowl to cut perfect rounds to put in the bottom of the muffin tin.

Fill the pie tins with your apple pie filling, making sure that you pack the pies full. Put a pad of butter on top of the apples and use the rest of the pie crust to create a lattice for the top.

Bake at 400 degrees for about 18-20 minutes depending on the size of your muffin pan.

Enjoy, im thinking with a little bit of  vanilla ice cream.

Better than *** Cake

Usually there is a rhyme and reason to why I tend to bake. However there is no real reason to bake this cake besides, I guess it has been an emotional week (even though it’s just Wednesday) and that’s reason enough to attempt to bake a cake. This usually tends to not work to my benefit because then I bake this cake and its sitting there on my counter saying “eat me, eat me” ,  and then I have to eat it.

Better than *** Cake, also known as Better than Sex Cake, has been something that I have had the pleasure to EAT since high school however I have never made one myself. This was a first attempt, I would say it went pretty well. Now, my mom has become a couponer, so I tend to assume that we have every basic baking ingredient that I would need. Which is never true (when will I learn!), needless to say I had to improvise on a few ingredients.

Better than *** Cake

Ingredients

  • 1 box of German Chocolate Cake Mix (you will need eggs and cooking oil usually for those)
  • SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK (this is where I improvised)
  • 1 tub of Whipped topping
  • Carmel sauce (I think this is optional, but it does make it extra good)
  • Heath Bars, smashed to bite size crumbles. (I say 3 are good but I love this topping)

1. Make the German Chocolate Cake Mix according to instructions on the back of the box.

*** my improvise, we did not have sweetened condensed milk like I assumed, we had evaporated milk. So I had to turn evaporated milk to sweetened condensed milk. To do this you add 1 1/2 cups of sugar to your evaporated milk and cook in a sauce pan for 15 minutes or until the consistency is a little thicker and all the sugar is melted. Make sure you stir consistently or it will burn. I did this while the cake was baking ***

2. When the cake is done poke holes in the top, but not all the way through.

3. Poor sweetened condensed milk on the cake filling the tops, this is where you also can add the caramel sauce.

4. Cover with whipped topping and Heath Bar crumbles, and more caramel sauce.

5. ENJOY (my family sure did)

A Semi-Painted Owl

In the middle of my desk project I decided to finnish another project I started in um….June…yes June. I am very good at procrastination as you may be able to tell from the still lack of paint on my desk that is sitting lonely in my garage ( I did make progress today and started looking for antique handles). Anyway…

In my room I have several white animals.

I found this really cute owl at an antique shop and thought he would be perfect white! Except he was this ugly green color, very 70’s.

So what did I do you ask….I painted him. He is currently grey with primer so I still have to paint him white. Maybe when I paint my desk.

I guess we will see what happens next 🙂

Create a New Desk

Unfortunately, my Target desk I got my sophomore year of college got water damage due to some washing machine issues, which is a long story on its own. So because of this desk issue, and lack of funds, and my creativity flowing, I decided to build my own desk. Thanks to some friends they gave me a desk for FREE that they had sitting outside. All I had to do was some massive sanding as well as create a new top out of some scrap wood.

** Dad helped with the power tools

What I did first:

  1. Vacuum all the gross spider webs and outside stuff.
  2. Unscrew all of the handles
  3. SAND! this was my favorite part because I got to use the power sander
  4. Find wood scraps, cut to fit. Make sure you measure twice so it is a perfect rectangle.
  5. Attach to the bottom
  6. Sand the new top. Make sure everything is smooth because you are going to have to write and do desk stuff on it.

I still need to paint. Paint coming soon
